Encouraging and promoting learning for all

Through PDRs and one-to-one meetings, clear communication will encourage employees to enquire about learning and development opportunities.


Management will support employees in requests that are appropriate for work and related personal development. The following points will help the learning process for the department, managers and for you as an individual.

Departments

Encourage and promote learning for all by:

  • encouraging and supporting learning and development throughout the working life of an employee
  • making certain that there is a structure in place to promote learning and development opportunities to staff
  • adapting and being flexible to changing work practices and needs and reflect these in learning and development opportunities
  • communicating - talk to each other, share views and ideas either in person,email, group discussion for example
  • identifying the knowledge and skills we all need to achieve the most efficient and effective service

Managers

Encourage and promote learning for all by:

  • making certain that all members of staff have access to equal opportunities
  • encouraging and support learning and development throughout the working life of an employee
  • working with employees to identify the relevant learning and development requirements of staff
  • promoting appropriate learning and development opportunities to staff
  • ensuring employees know where to look or point them in the right direction for information
  • reviewing PDRs on a regular basis
  • sharing views and ideas either in person, email, or group discussions
  • improving your skills in relation to performance, mentoring and developing action plans with teams
  • clarifying roles and responsibilities and objectives for the year in PDR meetings

Staff

Encourage and promote learning for all by:

  • not being afraid or reluctant to enquire about learning and development opportunities
  • working with your manager to identify your learning and development requirements
  • sharing views and ideas either in person, email or group discussions
