A Christmas message from Managing Director, Emma Alexander

19 December 2023

With Christmas nearly upon us, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your hard work and dedication to supporting the people of Derbyshire.

Throughout the year you've continued to support those who need us the most, including those impacted by cost-of-living increases. You've handled emergencies, such as the flooding caused by Storm Babet, continuously worked to improve the way we deliver our services and responded to ever increasing demand.

As you know, this is a challenging year for us as along with every other council, we face financial pressures far greater than we have experienced before. Over the past few months I’ve been asking you to think about ways that you can help save money and I really appreciate the work that has gone into reducing our in-year spend.

There are undoubtedly more challenges to come but I believe that by working together, being adaptable and making the most of opportunities, we can support each other to overcome them and work towards a brighter future.

One of the things that I'm looking forward to next year is the return of Our Derbyshire Awards. We're currently seeking sponsors for the event that will play an important part in recognising individual and team achievements so please start thinking about who you could put forward when nominations open next year.

I hope that you're able to enjoy some time off over the festive period but if you're one of the many colleagues who will be working or on standby over Christmas then I thank you for your commitment.

I appreciate that Christmas holidays can be a difficult time for those who don't have friends and family around them or who have lost loved ones. If you feel that you need some support or someone to talk to, please remember that wellbeing support is available to you.

I wish you all a merry Christmas and a very happy new year.

Best wishes

Emma
