Alcohol Awareness Week

10 July 2025

Alcohol awareness week runs from 7 to 13 July 2025 and it’s a great time to make some positive changes.

Whether it's used as a bonding tool, a reward, or as a way to try to cope, drinking too much or too often can have lasting effects on our mental and physical health, from sleepless nights, anxiety and depression to long-term health conditions like liver disease, high blood pressure, and cancer.

Alcohol Change UK has produced advice on how to spot the signs that you might be drinking too much and things you can do if you are concerned about your own or someone else's drinking.

You can use the free Lower My Drinking app which gives you the expert advice and scientifically proven tools you need to reduce your drinking to 14 units a week or less. You can contact Derbyshire Recovery Partnership if you're worried about your own drinking or our young people's service – Change Grow Live – if you're concerned about someone aged 18 or under.

If you're concerned about the impact your drinking may be having on a child or young person, you can get support for them at Space 4 U. Space 4 U is our service supporting children who are affected by the impact that drinking or substance use has on a family member or friend.

There are groups and organisations out there to help anyone experiencing problems with alcohol or drugs. As an employee, you also have access to our occupational health service.

Reducing drinking can make a real change in your life! You will have more energy, better sleep and mood and more money in your pocket!
