An end to shielding for clinically extremely vulnerable colleagues

30 March 2021

From 1 April 2021 colleagues who are classed as clinically extremely vulnerable will no longer need to shield.

They will remain within the clinically extremely vulnerable category and are still advised to take extra precautions to keep themselves safe from COVID-19. People who are defined as clinically extremely vulnerable are at very high risk of severe illness from COVID-19.

Along with all other colleagues, those who are classed as clinically extremely vulnerable should continue to work from home where possible. Where employees are unable to undertake their work from home (either in part or in full), it may be possible for them to return to a workplace where this workplace has been assessed and is a COVID-secure environment.

Anyone who is classed as clinically extremely vulnerable should talk to their line manager to discuss their working arrangements before returning to their workplace.
