Announcement from Managing Director Emma Alexander

10 July 2025

Our Managing Director Emma Alexander has announced her plans to leave Derbyshire County Council to take up the role of Chief Executive at Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council. The appointment is subject to approval at Tameside's Full Council meeting on 15 July 2025 and would see Emma leaving us this autumn.

Emma first joined Derbyshire County Council in September 2017 as Executive Director for Commissioning Communities and Policy. In January 2021 she became Managing Executive Director before being appointed as permanent Managing Director in December 2021.

During her time as Managing Director, Emma has driven forward significant change and improvement at Derbyshire County Council including shaping our recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting the establishment of the East Midlands Combined County Authority and leading the implementation of our One Council approach.

Emma said:

“It is with a heavy heart that I leave Derbyshire County Council and all the colleagues that I have had the pleasure of working alongside over my time here. I am proud to have been part of the dedicated and talented Derbyshire team who have delivered so much for our communities.”

She added:

“Should Tameside Council approve my appointment, arrangements will be put in place for my replacement, however, I am committed to continuing to serve the people of Derbyshire in the meantime.”
