Are you an unpaid carer?

22 May 2026

If you provide unpaid care to a family member or friend who couldn’t  cope without your help, we want to hear from you.

We’ve  launched a survey to better understand caring responsibilities across the council and what matters most to our colleagues. Your feedback will help shape future support.

The survey is anonymous and will only take a few minutes to complete.

We’re also hosting a Teams drop-in session during Carers Week  on Tuesday 9 June at 12:30pm for colleagues to share their experiences of being an unpaid carer, give feedback, ask questions and meet other carers

A carer is anyone including children who provide unpaid support with day-to-day living tasks or personal care to a family member, partner or friend. The person they care for could be ill, frail, suffer from a physical or mental health condition or impairment, is autistic, living with dementia, drug, or alcohol dependent.

We understand the importance of supporting colleagues, and those from other organisations, who are unpaid carers, and the demands that places on them.

As part of our Derbyshire All Age Carers Support Service – which is delivered by Derbyshire Carers Association on our behalf – we’ve  commissioned the Carer Friendly Employer Quality Award  which we're  also  working towards achieving.
