Bus Service Improvement Programme team host visit from Department for Transport

2 August 2023

Our Bus Service Improvement Programme (BSIP) team, which was successful in gaining £47 million in government funding to improve bus travel in the county, recently hosted a visit from Department of Transport (DfT) officials.

Representatives from the DfT met with bus operators, our Council Leader, Councillor Barry Lewis, and Cabinet Member for Highways Assets and Transport, Councillor Charlotte Cupit. They then paid a visit to the Highways Hub to look at the IT systems in place to prioritise buses.

During the afternoon they took a bus to Bakewell and then enjoyed a trip on the Peak Sightseer to Chatsworth, which is a new open top touring service which has received funding from the £47 million. The visit ended in Chesterfield to see work taking place in the town to improve bus travel.
