Celebrating an award‑winning collaboration

10 April 2026

One of the Digital Innovation Hub ideas last year involved taking part in the King's College London/Amazon Web Services Impact Accelerator Programme which pairs local authorities with King’s College London computer science students to develop AI solutions to real public‑sector challenges.

Sponsored by Tracey Hyslop in Children's Services, and led by Katy Halls in Digital Services, the project – 'social care case management information gathering AI tool' –  was focused on improving how children’s social care colleagues analyse and summarise complex case records. This often takes lots of time, simply collating information from a variety of sources before the important analysis can begin.

The project was evaluated at Amazon's HQ in London on 26 March against other councils' submissions to determine whether it successfully reduced the administrative burden, improved the quality of chronologies and case reviews, and supported faster, more informed decision‑making, and we're thrilled to announce that Derbyshire's submission won!

Many congratulations to Katy Halls, Tracey Hyslop, Deb Ashley, and members of Children's Services who were involved.
