Children's centre staff supporting families remotely

22 July 2020

Children's centre colleagues have been working hard to keep in contact and support the families in their areas. They have offered support by video call, phone, text and email.

They've also been running courses and sessions online – Amber Valley centres have been running parenting courses, baby buddy sessions and supporting families with speech and language development. Staff have been delivering story and song bags for parents to use during online sessions, along with wellness packs which include activities for children, pamper items for parents and tips to improve mental health during the pandemic.

All areas are updating their Facebook pages regularly with valuable information like ideas for activities for children, online security and safe sleeping advice and parents are finding the updates really useful. They've received lots of positive comments about their support:

"The regular posts have been really useful, giving me lots of information and ideas on how to keep the kids entertained throughout lockdown."

"Thank you so much for the song bags, they are so good and my child is really enjoying row your boat"

"My child is showing a real interest in Makaton and having the signs to use alongside the puppets in the singing bag has helped her to learn more signs"
