Core learning update
6 November 2025
The Corporate Management Team has approved updates to our core learning programme, with new mandatory courses and updates to who needs to complete them, aiming to balance risk and role relevance.
What’s changing?
- New courses:
- health and safety and personal safety level 1: Mandatory for all employees.
- safeguarding: Mandatory for CST and Place colleagues.
- manager’s guide to wellbeing: Mandatory for all people managers.
- local government basics: Mandatory for all people managers.
- decision making in local government: Mandatory for employees up to two reporting lines below assistant director and above.
- recruitment and selection – mandatory for all people managers.
- Updated requirements:
- fire safety awareness: Now applies to all locations.
- cyber security awareness: Mandatory only for those with a council email address – refreshed annually.
- Courses remaining in core learning:
- fraud prevention
- prevent (counter terrorism)
- information governance
- equality, diversity and inclusion
Climate change is no longer core but remains available.
What you need to know
- you’ll receive enrolment emails from Derbyshire Learning Online (DLO) beginning Monday 3 November 2025
- previously completed courses will carry forward until their refresh date
- offline versions will be available to support those without digital access
- you'll see what learning is required by visiting 'My Learning Record' and 'My Mandatory Learning' on DLO
