Coronavirus update 27 February 2020

27 February 2020

As you may be aware a case of COVID-19 (also known as coronavirus) has been confirmed in Derbyshire. The Derbyshire resident has been taken to a specialist NHS infection centre and picked up the virus in Tenerife.

Public Health England will be contacting those who have been in close contact with the resident and will advise any individuals or workplaces on any action required. Anyone who is not contacted by Public Health England does not need to take any action at this time other than following the general advice.

We're working closely with health colleagues to ensure the people of Derbyshire are protected. Despite high levels of media reporting the risk to the public remains low. It is important to remember that rates of positive tests remains low (currently 15 in the UK). Good hygiene is the best preventative measure so ensure you wash your hands regularly and thoroughly.

The LGA has useful information for councils including links to national advice, answers to common questions and campaign materials from PHE.
