Cyber security update

20 May 2022

As you will be aware from an email on 13 May, we detected an attempted cyber-attack on our IT systems which had the potential to cause disruption to services.

Our initial investigations have revealed that the incident could be part of a wider cyber-attack which has targeted many other organisations.

We’ve taken immediate steps to further increase the protection of data and systems in response to this attack. Forensic analysis is on-going, and we're working closely with specialists including the National Cyber Security Centre, Microsoft and the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Whilst we currently have no reason to believe the cyber-attack was successful, we are continuing thorough checks and it is important for everyone to stay extra vigilant as unfortunately the number of cyber-attacks is increasing.

Please continue to be alert both at work and in your personal life. Remember to change your passwords regularly and only use strong password combinations. Use Haloself-service portal to promptly report anything that seems suspicious such as phone calls and emails and don’t click on any suspicious links.

The information security section on Our Derbyshire provide lots of useful information about keeping data safe at work. Get Safe Online also provides information about how to protect yourself and your devices and top tips to help keep your data secure.
