Dealing with confidential waste at home

17 November 2020

Working from home has meant a significant reduction in the number of documents we print out. We’d ask that you don’t print documents out at home but if it really is unavoidable, please make sure that you dispose of them properly – particularly any document that is controlled or restricted, commercially sensitive or identifies an individual.

Think about handwritten notes as well – could you use the OneNote app on your computer instead?

If you really can’t avoid printing out documents or making handwritten notes, we’d ask that when you get a chance, and it is safe to do so, dispose of it using the confidential waste bin in your office. If this isn’t possible then ask your manager if they are happy for you to temporarily use a shredder at home.

But make sure you know the retention rules first as some documents need to be kept for a certain amount of time.
