Derbyshire v Nottinghamshire: 'Battle of the Roads' kicks off for charity

28 May 2026

Our highways colleagues have teamed up with their counterparts in Nottinghamshire to host a charity football match in support of local causes.

Dubbed the “Battle of the Roads,” the first-of-its-kind event kicks off on Sunday, 31 May, at Ilkeston Town Football Club.

All money raised from the game will be shared between two local charities: Ashgate Hospice, which provides vital end-of-life care for people with terminal illnesses, and Pulp Friction, which supports learning disabled and autistic people into work.

Rob Baines, Electrical Assets Commissioner, who has co-organised the event with Nottinghamshire County Council colleague Theo Parkes, is encouraging all staff to come along and enjoy the match.

“Everyone is warmly invited to come along, show their support, and enjoy what promises to be a lively and memorable event,” he said.

“Whether you're backing Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire, the real winners will be the charities benefiting from your support.”

The game kicks off at 2pm, with public entry from 1.30pm and a suggested £5 entry donation on the day. There will be a bar, cakes for sale, and a charity raffle.

If you can’t make it but would still like to contribute, you can donate online on the GiveWheel website.
