Derbyshire's Heartwood Community Forest takes root

1 December 2023

We successfully applied for government funding to become part of England's Community Forest network and the first tree has been planted at our countryside site on former colliery land in Glapwell.

This marks the start of the creation of Derbyshire's Heartwood Community Forest along the eastern and southern fringes of the county. We'll be working in partnership, and with community involvement, to help the planting of 300,000 trees on pockets of publicly accessible land by March 2025. This will support our ambition to facilitate the planting of a million trees by 2030.

The Community Forests improve access to nature by providing more green space in areas of the county with fewer woodlands and create a great legacy for generations to come.
