This assessment must be reviewed whenever there are significant changes to your workstation, equipment, or working arrangements. There’s guidance to help you complete the assessment at the bottom of the DSE self-assessment page.
If you carry out some of your work from home, please complete a homeworking assessment. Again, there’s guidance to help you do this on the DSE self-assessment page.
If you sometimes work from an office but not necessarily a fixed desk, you’re not expected to do an assessment each time you use a different desk but you should understand the guidance on how to set up a workstation and ensure that it is adjusted to meet all the requirements.
Regular assessments mean we can identify any adjustments needed to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders, eye strain, and fatigue.
You can also complete the e-learning module on Derbyshire Learning Online and is recommended for all DSE users.
Office equipment
Where workstations are provided, the following equipment should be available:
- adjustable office chair
- monitor
- keyboard
- laptop riser/docking arrangement
- mouse.
Office equipment from workstations must not be removed. If you need additional equipment, please submit a request through Halo.
Desk numbers and office layouts
All office spaces and rooms have been professionally planned by the property asset management team and take into account:
- minimum space requirements for occupants
- fire evacuation routes and emergency exits
- safe access and circulation routes e.g. preventing trip hazards
- storage requirements and general workplace safety standards.
To make sure we maintain these standards, office layouts must not be changed and the number of workstations can't be increased.
If you think an office needs a change of layout, it must be reviewed and approved by property asset management team.
A well-designed workstation and office environment can significantly reduce discomfort, improve wellbeing, and support productive working.
