Why are we doing this?
This is to help reduce the risk of sensitive or critical documents being left on your laptop. The downloads folder is designed to be a temporary storage location, not a place to store or work on documents.
How does this affect me?
From 29 September any files saved in your downloads folder will be automatically deleted after 7 days.
If you have downloaded something which you need to keep beyond 7 days, you’ll need to move it to a more appropriate location, such as your documents folder, a network drive, or OneDrive.
Some systems automatically save files to your downloads folder when you open a document.
Web browsers like Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome also use the downloads folder as the default location to save files.
What you should do?
Avoid working directly from the downloads folder.
Regularly check your downloads folder and move any important files to their appropriate storage location.
