Find out more about Ramadan

29 February 2024

Have you ever wondered what goes on in the holy month of Ramadan?

Our BME Network Group and Muslim colleagues are running an online session to give you an insight and increase your knowledge and awareness of Ramadan.

The session is taking place on 5 March 2024 between midday and 1pm. Register for your place now.

This year Ramadan is expected to begin on Sunday 10 March 2024 and conclude on Monday 8 April 2024. It is considered one of the holiest months for Muslims and is marked by a period of fasting from dawn until dusk.

Employees who are abstaining from food and drinks will have had one meal before dawn and may not eat or drink again until after sunset, which may affect their energy, concentration levels and cause them to become dehydrated and more tired than usual.

In addition to fasting, Muslims may also increase their spiritual observations, for example by praying more often during the day, by giving to charities, or by increasing contact with close and extended family members.

If you are observing Ramadan, talk to your manager to agree how you might adjust when you do your duties. As a manager or supervisor you could speak to your team members and check if they need any adjustments or support during Ramadan.
