There was a concern about the mental health of the staff in the control room so the constabulary HR team and our Healthy Workplaces team devised a survey which identified areas that needed addressing – physical activity, general health promotion, weight loss, mental health, and healthy eating.
From these survey results, a bespoke 12-month plan was developed which included the following:
- arranging for a specialist training on mental health to deliver resilience training to staff and team leaders
- training volunteers to undertake the Workplace Health Champion role
- health checks and body MOTs in the workplace
- on site weight management group
- healthy eating support
The project has proved to be a great success, with many control room staff taking advantage of the support and advice on offer to them.
Derbyshire Constabulary found a decrease in lost working days which equated to a £139,000 annual saving and that staff are coming back to work from sickness sooner.
Well done to all our staff for their contribution to the success of the project.
