It's Mode Shift Month

3 September 2026

Mode Shift Month is a September-long celebration dedicated to all things walking, wheeling, cycling, and journey sharing by public transport or car.

There's lots going on in September to celebrate walking, wheeling, riding, and using shared transport for everyday journeys.

During the month there are various travel campaigns happening across the country. We'd also love you to tell us how you used to travel to school in our school travel survey

  • Cycle September - a global month-long cycling challenge that encourages people around the world to ride bikes throughout September
  • Catch the Bus month - celebrating the power of buses and drive real change in transport
  • European Mobility Week - with a focus on Mobility for Everyone and intergenerational fairness
  • World Car Free Day - which highlights the benefits of going car-free, including reduced air pollution and the promotion of walking and cycling in a safer environment.

All this month we'll be featuring stories and activities you can join in with to help create safer, healthier and more accessible journeys where you live, work, play or go to school, to support people of all ages and abilities to travel more confidently.

We look forward to you joining us!
