Learning and development – design and delivery by numbers

3 October 2025

After introducing you to the design and delivery team last week, we’re back with a snapshot of the numbers that bring our work to life. From digital learning to vocational qualifications, here’s how we’re supporting growth across the council.

Derbyshire Learning Online

Over the last 12 months, nearly 75,000 courses have been completed through Derbyshire Learning Online (DLO) including:

  • e-learning completions
  • video views
  • webinar attendance
  • face-to-face sessions
  • briefings and more

More than 4,000 people log in to DLO each month and at the start of September 2025 there were 10,350 active users.

Listening to learners

We’ve introduced a 5-star quick evaluation at the end of course completions, and we’re rolling this out across all learning. As of end of July 2025 we’ve seen:

  • an average rating of 4.4 out of 5
  • more than 9,000 colleagues submitted ratings
  • comments left on around 2% of completions.

We’ll explore more about how we’re expanding evaluation and using this feedback in an upcoming article.

Vocational qualifications: supporting career progression

Since 1 April, our vocational qualifications team has:

  • registered 42 new learners
  • maintained a caseload of 135 learners working toward qualifications at levels 2, 3, 4, and 5 in both Adult Social Care and Children’s Services.

Practice development: building frontline capability

The practice development team currently supports:

  • 74 newly qualified social workers on the ASYE programme (Assessed and Supported Year in Employment)
  • 19 social worker apprenticeship placements
  • development and ongoing support for 53 Approved Mental Health Practitioners (AMPHs) which includes 18 hours of specialist training each year
  • support for 29 social work supervisors
  • practice educators.

We’ll continue sharing how our work reflects our values and supports colleagues across the organisation with a focus on empowerment linked to mandatory learning.
