LGBT+ History Month 2023

1 February 2023

LGBT+ History Month runs throughout February and focusses on the celebration and recognition of LGBT+ people, history and culture.

It looks at the improvements made to date, in securing equal rights and fighting against discrimination, as well as considering the progress still to be made, both in terms of work and service delivery.

It is vital for everyone to feel that they can be themselves at work, but it is not always the case.

We all play a role in creating an environment and culture where everyone is treated fairly and with dignity and respect. Therefore, as individuals, teams, and departments we must continue to show our support and be there for each other, champion our values, and stand together with our communities.

Behind the lens - celebrating LGBT+ History Month

Join us on Friday, 17 February 2023, from 11.30am to 12.30pm on MS Teams to mark this year's LGBT+ History Month together with colleagues across Derbyshire in a session exploring the influence of media and television.

Through a fun and engaging quiz and presentation you will explore the influence of directors, cinematographers, screen writers, producers, animators, costume designers, special effects, make up artists, lighting directors, musicians and choreographers as well as the importance and power of representation in the media.

Pride Progress Flag

You're probably aware of the 'traditional' 6-striped rainbow flag, but did you know that in 2018 the Pride Progress flag was developed. The additional chevrons to the left have been included to represent the Trans and Black and minority ethnic communities.

We will be flying the flag to mark the beginning of the month and show the unity with the LGBT+ community across Derbyshire. Flying the flag is also a way to show that we don't tolerate homophobia, transphobia or biphobia. We want our workplaces, schools and communities to be safe places where everyone is able to be themselves without fear of bullying, intimidation, abuse or harm.

If you’d like to show your support on the day you can download a Pride Progress flag background for your Teams meetings from the M365 learning centre.
