LGR – latest update

27 March 2026

We’ve submitted the council’s formal response to the government’s seven-week statutory consultation on proposals for reorganising councils in Derby and Derbyshire.

We have responded in our role as a statutory consultee and there’s still time to have your say as part of the consultation which closes tonight.

The consultation is about the following five proposals submitted to Government in November last year:

Take part in the consultation and have your say.

While we’re waiting for a decision to be made about what the future of local government in Derby and Derbyshire will look like, we’re continuing work to prepare the ground for merging services with the district, borough and city councils.

Colleagues across all departments are continuing to record all the services we provide, the IT and data systems we use, and updating our asset and contract registers. Thanks to everyone working hard to pull this information together.

We’ve also expanded our LGR steering group to include representatives from all departments and Chris Henning, Executive Director for Place, has joined the group as Executive Director for Corporate Services and Transformation (CST).

Chris will provide continuity and leadership as the ‘Senior Responsible Officer’ as we move into the next phase of our LGR and transformation work.

We’ll continue to keep you up to date about the latest developments throughout the LGR process. Remember you can also find key information on our LGR hub.
