LGR update 5 May 2026

5 May 2026

Since our last update, preparatory work across the 10 Derby and Derbyshire councils involved in the reorganisation has continued to progress.

Most of the new joint governance arrangements are now in place, with many of the service‑focused programme boards having met and beginning to mobilise. These boards bring councils together to provide shared oversight of preparation work, develop a consistent understanding of how services currently operate, and plan how services can continue to run smoothly during the transition period.

This activity is helping to maintain momentum and ensure we are well prepared for any outcome once the government announces its decision. Groundwork across the county council is also continuing, alongside this joint work, to ensure we are in the strongest possible position for the next phase.

We'll continue to keep colleagues updated and will share further information as things progress. In the meantime, please visit the LGR hub for the latest updates, key documents and answers to common questions.
