Local Government Apprentice of the Year event

29 July 2022

We are very proud to have been involved in this year’s virtual Local Government Apprentice of the Year 2022 event.

Three of our apprentices took part in the event, Katie Newsome, HR business support apprentice, Ruth Tunnicliffe who is completing a team leader apprenticeship in business services and Sarah Doughty, business administration apprenticeship in children's services.

All our apprentices did a fantastic job representing Derbyshire County Council. Ruth Tunnicliffe was recognised for her contribution and won a prize for being part of the 'Best Overall Team'.

We received positive feedback from our apprentices too. Ruth said she particularly enjoyed the speed networking session, team events and getting involved in something out of her comfort zone and day-to-day role. Whilst Sarah loved meeting new people and was proud of herself for trying something new. Katie would strongly encourage apprentices to take part in next year's event as it allows apprentices to speak and network.

Katie Newsome's, line manager Ellenna Bond said:

“It was a fantastic opportunity for our apprentices to share ideas, knowledge and experiences with other apprentices from around the country, and also to develop new skills and behaviours which they are able to bring to their current and future roles.”
