It is considered one of the holiest months for Muslims and is marked by a period of fasting from dawn until dusk.
Employees who are abstaining from food and drinks will have had one meal before dawn and may not eat or drink again until after sunset, which may affect their energy, concentration levels and cause them to become dehydrated and more tired than usual.
In addition to fasting, Muslims may also increase their spiritual observations, for example by praying more often during the day, by giving to charities, or by increasing contact with close and extended family members.
If you are observing Ramadan, talk to your manager to agree how you might adjust when you do your duties. As a manager or supervisor you could speak to your team members and check if they need any adjustments or support during Ramadan.
We have a space which is open to everyone for prayer and contemplation. The facility is on the main ground floor corridor at County Hall.
As well as a more spacious and comfortable environment, the multi-faith prayer room has a dedicated unisex wudu ablution wash room for those who require this preparation for prayer. The ceiling has a directional arrow for Qibla and there is comfortable seating for those who wish to worship sitting down.
Please ask colleagues at reception for directions to the new facility.
