Working across a range of service areas including highways, finance, business support and catering, they will gain skills, qualifications and valuable workplace experience through apprenticeships ranging from Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE level) to Level 4 (equivalent to a foundation degree and above).
The new starters will follow nationally recognised training programmes, delivered by approved training providers, lasting between 15 months and 3 years.
Since 2020 nearly 800 council employees have successfully completed an apprenticeship. Lucy Jay, Senior Organisation Development Lead, is one of the many colleagues to have benefited from the scheme.
She said: “After graduating from university, I needed practical workplace experience to complement my academic learning.
“Starting as a Learning and Development Consultant Business Partner Level 5 apprentice gave me the opportunity to continue developing my skills while gaining valuable hands-on experience.
“Apprenticeships can open so many doors. They've helped me develop professionally, gain qualifications and progress my career, and I'd encourage others to take advantage of the opportunities available.”
An induction event was held at County Hall, Matlock, where the apprentices were welcomed by Chief Executive Neil Crittenden and heard about the council's values, the support available to them and the opportunities ahead as they begin their apprenticeship journeys.
They also took part in an outdoor pursuits and team-building day at Lea Green Learning and Development Centre, which included archery, bushcraft, orienteering and low rope courses.
Neil said: "It's fantastic to welcome so many new apprentices to the council. They represent the future of our organisation and will play an important role in supporting services that make a real difference to the lives of Derbyshire residents.
"Apprenticeships provide an excellent opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience while earning and learning, and I'm delighted to see so many people choosing to begin their careers with us. I wish them every success for the future."
The programme reflects the council's continued investment in developing a skilled workforce, creating career opportunities and supporting local people to build successful careers in public service.
