Meet Teams, the hub for teamwork in Office 365
3 July 2020
We're rolling out Microsoft Teams, the chat-based workspace in Office 365 that makes it easy to have conversations, host meetings, share files, collaborate on documents and get work done with teams across the council. Teams lets you work in a natural, conversational way — with everything you need in one place — available anytime, on any device.
Some of you may already be using Teams as we’ve been running pilots in all directorates to find out how we can use it most effectively. The pilots have demonstrated that Teams can help us to modernise and improve the way we work so we're now in a position to make it available to everyone.
Initially we’ll be opening up Microsoft Teams as a communication tool so you’ll be able to search for colleagues, use text chat, make voice calls and video calls to other Microsoft Teams users, and hold virtual meetings. Many of you have been making use of Skype to keep in touch with each other up to now but this will be fully replaced by Teams in the near future.
There are lots more features within Microsoft Teams that we’ll begin to make available once the programme has been installed on all our computers.
We’re really excited about the potential Teams has to improve the way we work together and help us to move forward as an enterprising and dynamic council.
The roll out of Teams will be done gradually between 3 July and 21 September so look out for the icon appearing on your desktop.
We’ll be sharing lots more information about how to use Teams over the coming weeks but for now you can watch the introductory video to find out more.
