Multi-factor authentication - latest update

24 August 2026

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is becoming mandatory for signing into all Microsoft applications.

We’re continuing to roll out of MFA across the organisation. CST and Place are now complete.

If you work in Adult Social Care and Health or Children's Services you must register for MFA before these deadlines:·

  • Adult Social Care and Health: 7 September
  • Children's Services: 5 October.

If you haven’t already, you can register for MFA today. Head over to our multi-factor authentication guides on the Learning Centre to find out more.

Whether you’re registering for MFA for the first time or have previously registered, we recommend that you register for the Microsoft Authenticator app. Setup is simple, and the app can be used to manage other MFA accounts such as banks, email and shopping.

Questions about MFA app data privacy or phone permissions? Our Microsoft Authenticator and your privacy page will answer those questions so that you can be confident that your personal data is not being shared.
