To mark the month we’re involved in putting on a couple of events to learn about employee network groups and to explore the narratives of race.
Event at County Hall
As part of Black History Month 2024 we’re holding an event in committee room 1 at County Hall on Thursday, 24 October from 9.15am to 1pm.
The event is centered around the importance and influence of network groups and maximising their influence to colleagues. This is a great opportunity to learn and transform our workplace support groups, empowering and supporting each other, with the opportunity to network with representatives from other organisations.
We have 3 special guest speakers to provide valuable life lessons, insights and experiences:
- Nicolle Ndiweni Roberts – Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner
- Carl St Paul – London Fire Brigade Equality Champion with 30 years experience
- Dominic (Dom) Osho – East Midlands Ambulance Qualified Technician
Event at the University of Derby
We’re also working with the University of Derby along with other partners, to host an event – ‘Reclaiming the narratives on race – exploring our sense of belonging through collaboration’, which will be held at the University’s Heap Lecture Theatre on Kedleston Road, Derby on 30 October 2024 from 5.45pm until 8pm.
A panel of equality, diversity and inclusion ‘change makers’ from the University of Derby, Derbyshire Police, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue, Derby City Council, University Hospitals of Derby & Burton NHS Trust and The National Trust will share their views challenging the narratives of race.
The event will:
- explore what the sense of belonging means for our workplaces and communities
- understand what local organisations do to create an inclusive working environment and service provision
- identify current opportunities and challenges in creating a sense of belonging
