A new Council Plan is developed every 4 years to set a clear direction for the authority, and it is refreshed every year to ensure it encompasses new and emerging opportunities and challenges.
Essential to the new plan has been understanding the broader context within which we will be operating over the next 4 years, including any potential changes in government policy, financial and environmental pressures, key risks and anticipated constraints on service delivery.
The plan also outlines a new vision and new outcomes that we are seeking to achieve alongside partners, with newly developed ways of working, employee values and customer commitments.
Our vision is 'working together to improve lives across Derbyshire', with the following outcomes:
People
Empowered communities where people live safe, happy, healthy and independent lives.
Place
Prosperous, green and sustainable places with opportunities for all.
The council
A resident-focused, efficient and effective organisation delivering value for money.
In order to deliver the outlined vision and outcomes for us, we've agreed a set of values that will help shape the culture across the authority and encourage consistent behaviour. These values were co-created with input from colleagues across all departments and plans are being put in place to embed them across the work we do. They are:
- accountable – we hold ourselves and others to account
- collaborative – we listen and engage to deliver shared goals
- innovative – we are curious, embrace change and continuously improve
- empowered – we support, trust and value each other
Also included are 24 new strategic objectives that make up the activity which will be carried out to ensure the plan is delivered.
The plan is summarised and endorsed in a foreword written by Council Leader Councillor Barry Lewis and Managing Director Emma Alexander.
