These new values describe who we are and what we stand for as a council; they help shape our culture and encourage consistent behaviours. They are:
- collaborative
- innovative
- empowered
- accountable
Colleague feedback told us that our previous values were not well known, too wordy and not embedded in everything we do. We decided to review the values as part of the Council Plan. Almost 1,000 colleagues helped shape them during 7 roadshows held in Autumn 2024. Feedback was also received from 304 colleagues, residents and other stakeholders during the Draft Council Plan 2025 to 2029 public consultation.
Our new co-developed values were agreed at Full Council in February 2025.
The new values will be embedded within the Performance Development Review (PDR) process for 2025 to 2026. In addition to setting goals (what we do), all colleagues will now be asked to consider and agree with their line manager which of the new values (how we do our work) they will develop and focus on for the year ahead. Changes have been made to the PDR Word templates to include the new values.
Expect to see and hear much more on the values in the coming months as we start embedding them into everything we do.
