Putting families at the heart of services

1 September 2025

Young people with a learning disability and autism have been at the heart of designs for a new specialist residential service in Derbyshire thanks to work by colleagues in adult social care.

They’ve worked in partnership with families and Godfrey Care to create bespoke accommodation at Waverley House to support 18 to 25-year-olds with high care and support needs to gain greater independence.

A former county council care home has been transformed into 6 self-contained living spaces to provide a safe, supportive environment where the young people can develop life skills necessary to thrive and be part of their community.

Angela, whose son is moving into the new accommodation, said:

“As parents we were really impressed with how both care providers worked together to provide good practice and routine for our son’s personal behaviour and support plan.“

His choices, wants, needs and preferences were considered at every opportunity. As a family we are so grateful and impressed with how individual service providers have worked so well together. We feel privileged to be a part of the end product.”
