Recognising National Care Leavers' Week

At Derbyshire we're proud and committed to our legal and moral duty to our care leavers. To mark National Care Leavers' Week, which runs from 28 October to 3 November 2024, we're running a series of events for our young people to give them some opportunities and experiences, but also, so they can be together.

We're also lighting up County Hall in blue on Thursday 31 October 2024 – part of a national agreement signed up to by local councils under the government's 'Keep on Caring' strategy to show support for care leavers and something suggested by one of our care leavers that we do in Derbyshire this year.

We recognise that all Derbyshire employees are corporate parents to children in care or young people who have been in care and we're currently considering ideas about how we can do more to give our young people opportunities and experiences and reduce barriers.
