Royal Garden Party honour for colleagues

28 May 2026

Representatives from across the council had the honour of attending Royal Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace this month, joining thousands of guests from across the country in recognition of their service to communities.

Among them was Chloe Mae Malone, Children’s Practitioner from Children’s Services, who described the day as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

“It felt like a huge honour to be amongst people who are working so hard to support their communities,” she said.

“Passing through the gates and walking into the vast grounds, which held around 8,000 guests, felt incredibly special.”

Members of the Royal Family – including the King and Queen, the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh – attended across the different days and mingled with guests.

Visitors were treated to a traditional afternoon tea in the palace gardens, with Beefeaters in attendance and brass bands providing entertainment.

“I’m very grateful for this amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I’d like to thank my team, Stronger Families, for giving me the chance to represent the hard work we all do and the difference we make,” added Chloe.

Jo Hollick, Principal Asset Management Officer, from Corporate Services and Transformation, attended with her daughter Sophie and shared her own memorable moment.

“The highlight of the day was getting to speak to the King,” she said.

“He asked if we had found the tea tent, as he had heard it was rather good! It was a fabulous day that I will remember for a very long time.”

Steve Allen, Head of Trading Standards, was also invited and said he was proud to represent both the service and the council as a whole.

The garden parties, held annually, recognise individuals who have made a positive impact in their communities. A number of our councillors were also invited to attend events this month.

For those who attended, the experience was a chance not only to celebrate their work, but to reflect on the difference they make every day.
