This year, our campaign in Derbyshire is Starting Conversations with Kindness.
The campaign focuses on the power of simple, compassionate conversations and the difference they can make to someone’s wellbeing.
As part of this year’s (WSPD) activities, we are looking for volunteers to support us for the 9th year of running the WSPD football and rugby games.
Volunteers play a vital role in helping the events run smoothly and creating a welcoming space for everyone attending.
You will greet fans arriving for the game and hand out WSPD Z-Cards. The cards include an image of the club on the front, the club’s season fixtures and mental health and suicide prevention information inside.
Over the past 9 years, we have worked with more clubs year on year, and in 2026 we are partnering with 18 clubs across Derbyshire.
To be a volunteer no previous experience is required, just enthusiasm and a willingness to support an important community event. You are welcome to volunteer at as many games as you like and, after volunteering, you can stay and watch the game for free if you wish.
The matches are a fantastic opportunity to get involved, meet others, raise awareness of suicide prevention, and help create opportunities for conversations that could save lives.
Each game will have a volunteer leader who will coordinate things on the day. You will be fully prepared and supported ahead of time and on the day. The clubs currently included are:

- Chesterfield Rugby Club
- Gamesley FC
- Sheffield FC
- Dronfield Rugby Club
- Long Eaton Rugby Club
- Derby County FC
- Long Eaton United FC
- Gresley Rovers FC
- New Mills FC
- Glossop North End FC
