Teams basics

22 July 2020

Most of you will now have Microsoft Teams installed on your PC or laptop so we're sharing some basic tips to help you find your way around and start making the most of it.

Trying to work out how to do something or forgotten how to use a certain feature within Teams? You can access useful, short training videos via the help menu in Teams.

Click on the little help icon in the bottom left corner of the Teams window, select topics and then search for help articles.

There are a few different ways you can make a video or audio call to another Teams user within the council.

One of the quickest ways is to type a person's name in the search bar at the top of the Teams window. You can then click on the right name to open a chat window and select video or audio call in the top right corner.

You can also use the calls tab on the left and search for the person you need to contact.

Chat is a great way to reduce the number of emails that go back and forth between team members. You can chat one-to-one or add several people to a group. Give your group a name to help identify which chat is for which topic.

Hover over a particular chat and select the 3 dots to get more options such as mute, pin or leave.

We'll be sharing useful tips every week so look out for them in future newsletters.

Don't forget that we're currently recruiting volunteers from across the council to become digital champions. If you'd like to receive additional training so that you can support colleagues in using Teams we'd love to hear from you. Find out more about becoming a digital champion and register online.
