In Derby and Derbyshire this event will be used to promote local charities and services that support mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
Our Digital Learning Coordinator, Charlie Greaves, is one of the people who have been chosen to carry the baton, with her own experiences of suicide spurring her on to participate.
Speaking about why she is proud to be carrying the baton, Charlie said:
“Quite a while ago I was in a very dark, bad place and felt I had no way out and I tried to commit several times as I thought this was the best option. I also lost my brother to suicide 3 years ago. I feel extremely honoured to have been chosen to carry the baton and hope I will do Ben and myself proud.”
