The Big Recycling Hunt

23 October 2023

It’s Recycle Week from 16 to 22 October and the campaign has now clocked up 2 decades.

This year the challenge is to recycle more of the right things, more often and to hunt out items in the home that can be recycled but are often missed. Things like empty aerosols, food tins, plastic cleaning and toiletry bottles, pots, tubs and trays. Find out more on the Recycle Now website or on the Recycle Now Facebook page.

And as the UK keeps on its journey to Net Zero there are new opportunities for recycling being added all the time. Are you keeping up?! Did you know for example that toothpaste tubes can now be recycled at retailers like Boots where you get advantage points as a thank-you. Check to see what your favourite retailers accept and you might be rewarded for it too!

It’s great to recycle as much as we can at our workplaces as well. Kitchenettes in all of our buildings should contain a recycling bin with clear signage showing what you can and can’t recycle.

Please take a moment to remind yourself what you can put in these bins and use them as often as possible. If your nearest kitchen area doesn’t have a recycling bin then you can request one, email facilities.management@derbyshire.gov.uk.
