The devastating impact of data breaches

15 November 2024

The data that we hold on residents is often of a very personal nature so it’s all the more important that we all take great care of the data we hold and process.

55% of adults have had their data lost or stolen at some point. Sometimes the breaching of that data can have a huge negative effect on people’s lives and the personal and emotional toll of this is often overlooked.

Information Commissioner’s Office

The Information Commissioner’s Office has published a very stark insight into the effects of personal data breaches.

Our Data Protection Officer (Jane Lakin), Senior Information Risk Owner (Leonardo Tantari) and Caldicott Guardian (Simon Stevens) encourage you to take some time out of your busy schedules to read it.

We’re obliged to protect personal data and all our colleagues must play their part in helping us to do so. The guidance is a timely reminder that no matter how busy we are, we must always pause and think twice before we act.
