Training to improve how you talk to residents about their health

9 February 2026

Is it your job to communicate with people about their health? 6 in 10 people in Derbyshire will struggle to understand basic health information – is your information and messaging easy for people to understand?

Health literacy is about:

  • People being able to understand information to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.
  • Services and organisations providing information in a way that everyone can understand and access.

We’re running some training sessions funded by Joined Up Care and delivered by a health psychologist which will cover:

  • what health literacy is and why it is important
  • how to spot when someone has low health literacy
  • how to make your information easier to understand
  • examples of what other teams have done, and ideas you could use in your own work
  • where to find helpful health literacy resources.

The sessions will be delivered via Microsoft Teams on:

  • Tuesday 17 February at 9:30am to 11:30am
  • Wednesday 18 March at 9:30am to 11:30am
  • Thursday 23 April at 9:30am to 11:30am
