UK Disability History Month: migraine
5 December 2024
Continuing our spotlight on disabilities and long-term health conditions, this week we are looking at migraine. Many people imagine migraine to be 'just a really bad headache'. Of course for those who suffer migraine it is far more debilitating.
A migraine is a neurological condition that often causes painful headaches and there are 11 recognised types. A migraine is characterised by throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, usually on one side of the head. Although, in some cases, it can affect both sides.
Migraine happens as attacks and can last for hours to days, and the pain can be so severe that it interferes with someone's daily activities.
