As the contract for the management of all our printers, scanners and photocopiers renews at the end of June, we’re taking the opportunity to make some changes that will help us save money and make printing easier.
The overall number of machines will be reduced to reflect the change in our printing habits and remove those that aren’t being used. The remaining machines will be managed centrally rather than being owned by specific departments and will be placed in suitable locations so that all colleagues can access them.
Retrieving your printing will be much easier as we introduce what’s known as ‘follow me printing’. Rather than having to identify a specific printer and then enter a pin at that machine, you’ll be able to simply send your document to print and then go to any printer and use an access card to retrieve it. This includes printers on different floors, in different council buildings and even your local library. The use of personal access cards means your documents will remain secure.
Departments will be charged for what they use and we continue to encourage you to think carefully before you print so that you can help keep costs down and reduce the impact on the environment. If you have large quantities of printing or any special requirements, please contact the business centre for advice about the most economical way this can be done by emailing digital.print@derbyshire.gov.uk.
Over the coming weeks we’ll share more information about how the access cards will be distributed, available training and exact dates for the changeover. In the meantime, if you have any questions please contact Steve Harrison or Jon Rogers.
