Value Deep Dive - Innovative

11 August 2025

Throughout August, we want to focus on our Innovative value!

Innovative graphicWhat does innovative mean?

We define innovative as ‘we are curious, embrace change and continuously improve’. It means challenging the way we do things.

We can all demonstrate being innovative in our everyday behaviours and decision-making.

Here are some example of how colleagues have been innovative recently:

  • Children's Services: Children's Services has worked closely with the design and delivery team to create a comprehensive tracker. This tool gathers information from different sources like complaints, case reviews, and inspection feedback, all in one place. This makes it easier to identify key learning themes and necessary improvements while avoiding duplication across teams. A great example of innovation!
  • Design and delivery: The design and delivery team has also reviewed the approach to mandatory learning across the council, with the principle of ensuring that mandatory learning is essential to the role, but proportionate and beneficial to learners and achieves the learning outcomes. Alternative manager-led versions are available where needed – this ensures that all colleagues who need to can access the mandatory training. Another example of working innovatively!
