Celebrated annually on the 22 June, this year marks 75th anniversary of the Windrush and offers an opportunity to come together to deepen our understanding and celebrate this shared history.
There are a number of local events you can participate in.
Windrush Day webinar
Join us on Wednesday 21 June 2023, 1pm to 2pm to learn more about Windrush and celebrate the Windrush Generation’s many contributions to the local and British society, culture and economy.
We will be joined by Kenton Black from Derby West Indian Community Association and Ludwig Ramsey from Chesterfield African Caribbean Community Association, who will share a local perspective including their community projects and initiatives.
The session is open to all employees, managers, elected members and community representatives.

Windrush 75 - Chesterfield
Chesterfield African Caribbean Association in Partnership with Chesterfield Library and Chesterfield Museum are organising the ‘Windrush Stories’ event on Thursday 22 June 2023 from 5pm to 6:30pm.
Hosted at Chesterfield Library the event will explore stories from the local community, including Windrush Generation memories and experiences.

Windrush 75 - Derby
Windrush Stories: An Exploration of Migration with Dr Panya Banjoko
Come and listen to Dr Panya Banjoko and Derby seniors sharing stories of their childhood as children from the Windrush era. Organised at Derby Museum and Art Gallery on Thursday 22 June 2023 at 12.30pm, this talk will explore how black people negotiated and managed migration during the Windrush phase of immigration to the UK (1948 to 1972).
