Employee Pulse Survey results December 2020

Our December 2020 survey was completed by 4,162 employees – 35% of the workforce.

In December 2020 we asked all of you to give us your feedback on a number of areas to help us understand your views and how you feel. The same set of questions will be asked on a regular basis to see how responses change over time and allow us to reflect on what the organisation can continue to do to support you.

The following is a summary of the key results from the survey.

Who completed the survey

Of the 4,157 colleagues who completed the survey, 82% are regular council email users. The other 730 responses were from colleagues who don't regularly use email in their role and are therefore harder to reach. These colleagues were offered the opportunity to complete paper versions of the survey in order to share their views.

The number of responses from each department was as follows:

  • adult social care and health – 1,333 responses
  • children's services – 1,346 responses
  • commissioning, communities and policy – 1,083 responses
  • economy, transport and environment – 388
  • anonymous – 12

The responses from the pulse survey generally reflected the demographics of the council.

Next steps

We also asked for volunteers to take part in an engagement workshop. Nearly 600 people offered to get involved in this, so we'll be working with them over the coming weeks to further explore the themes covered in the survey.

We'll be asking everyone to complete the pulse survey again in April so we can see if views and feelings have changed and continue to identify areas for improvement.

We're also asking managers to continue having regular briefings with their teams to develop and update your local action plans. This will allow you to make changes and improvements as a team to support each other and improve the way you work.

Please continue to complete these surveys and take part in team briefings as this is a really important way for you to share your views and help shape the future.
