Dis-Ability Inclusion Network member Deb

Meet one of our Dis-Ability Inclusion Network members, Deb

Deb

I have worked for Derbyshire County Council since 2018 when I started as a newly qualified Social Worker in Adult Care. I have recently started a six-month secondment in the Learning and Development team and I'm really enjoying supporting students and new social workers joining the council.

Diagnosis

I was diagnosed with ADHD in October 2020 and felt not only shocked by my diagnosis but very isolated. The council has supported me to use my life experience, gain qualifications and develop my wider understanding of neurodiversity and how it can impact us - the workforce.

Becoming part of the Dis-Ability Network

I am now part of the Dis-Ability Network, which has been a safe inclusive space to share and support each other, as well as being part of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion workstream representing neurodiversity, and have also developed a UK wide group for neurodivergent social workers.

Outside of work

Outside of work I am mum to 2 neurodivergent teenagers, 2 dogs and 2 cats, and can often be found either in my allotment or at a music festival!

I am passionate about equality and celebrating the strengths different ways of thinking bring to the organisation.
