Introducing multi-factor authentication

14 July 2026

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is being rolled out as a mandatory verification step to help keep our accounts and data secure.

It requires you to verify your sign-in using something you know (your password) and something you have, such as:

  • a notification or code from the Microsoft Authenticator app
  • a text message or phone call to your mobile
  • a code sent to your personal email address.

If you don’t have a suitable device to set MFA up with, please speak to your manager.

MFA is being rolled out in phases:

  • Corporate Service and Transformation: 13 July
  • Place: 3 August
  • Adult Social Care and Health: 7 September
  • Children’s Services: 5 October

If you don’t set up MFA by your department's deadline, you will lose access to Microsoft applications. Please add at least 2 sign-in methods and keep these up to date.
