The approval marks an important step forward in our vision to secure a sustainable future for the historic Grade II listed building, which has served as our headquarters for many years, while bringing it back into use for future generations.
The planning permission granted by Derbyshire Dales District Council, will allow developers to deliver a modern council workplace with commercial space, new homes, a hotel and community spaces to attract visitors and investment into the region.
As well as creating a new future for the building, the redevelopment is expected to add £66 million to Matlock’s economy and £145 million across Derbyshire, while creating 100 permanent jobs in addition to more than 800 construction jobs and apprenticeships in hospitality, construction and heritage skills.
We have worked closely with partners throughout the planning process to develop a scheme that meets planning requirements and respects the building’s significance, while also unlocking opportunities for investment and wider economic benefits for the area.
The development will now move forward in line with the conditions set out by Derbyshire Dales District Council.
