Redeployment FAQs

Frequently asked questions about redeployment.

As a priority status candidate at risk of redundancy, will I be offered the job straightaway if I meet its requirements?

In most cases you will need to apply for any jobs you are interested in by completing an application form and attending an interview, before potentially being offered the job.

If you have been notified that you are ‘at risk’ and have priority status you can apply for jobs, at the same grade or below, where you meet the essential requirements, or could do so with reasonable training and support (provided there are no essential or statutory qualification requirements).

Where there is more than one priority candidate, a competitive interview process will take place.

You should indicate clearly on the job application form that you have priority interview status so that recruiting managers are aware.

What should I do when I see a job I’m interested in?

You should complete the application form, indicating clearly your redeployment status.

If you are ‘at risk’ of redundancy, you should also advise your designated redeployment officer, who will support you in your application.

If you are a schools employee, as soon as you have submitted your application form, you will need to contact the Schools’ HR department, telephone: 01629 535734, or by email at cayahr.enquiries@derbyshire.gov.uk to inform a member of the HR team.

Please advise them of the job reference number and closing date.

As a priority candidate, what happens once I've let the redeployment officer know that I’ve applied for a job?

Your designated redeployment officer will contact the recruiting manager to discuss your application.

It will be explained that you are a priority candidate.

What happens if I get a job with another employer straightaway?

If you take up another job within the council or with another employer subject to the Redundancy Payments (Local Government) (Modification) Order within 4 weeks of being made redundant, you are able to maintain continuous service but will forfeit the right to a redundancy payment.

If I am a school employee, can I only apply for jobs within schools?

You can apply for all jobs in the council.

Priority status does not apply to employees currently employed by the county council directly who are applying for a schools employed role.
